ANDERSON - The Anderson Community Schools’ Board of Trustees approved a 5 year, $40,000 sponsorship agreement with Redwood Automotive at their August 10, 2021 meeting. In exchange for the sponsorship, the Anderson High School (AHS) football field will now be called “Collier Field sponsored by Redwood Automotive”.
“We are very grateful to Redwood Automotive for stepping forward and investing in the student athletes at AHS,” said Steve Schilnder, Athletic Director at AHS. “With this sponsorship, it will allow the athletic dept. to purchase and provide some needed equipment that we would have struggled to provide due to the loss of revenue from the pandemic.”
Funds from the sponsorship will be used to update athletic equipment that will immediately impact student-athletes. These updates include: new volleyball nets and poles, wrestling mats, hurdles, high jump pits, pole vault equipment, and weight room equipment.
“The entire team at Redwood is absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Anderson High School Athletic Dept,” said Andrea Dodson, General Manager of Redwood Automotive. “My husband and I moved to Anderson 4 years ago when we decided to start our business here because we firmly believe that small business owners should be involved in the communities they serve.”
Redwood Auto is a small, family-operated start-up business on the northside of Anderson. They offer quality vehicles priced at or below market value and take great pride in serving their customers. This has led to them receiving several awards for customer service.
“It is important for the community to know that Redwood Automotive is a local company that has chosen to step up to the plate to support Anderson High School and our student-athletes,” said Dr. Kelly Durr, Director of Operations at Anderson Community Schools. “We are profoundly appreciative of this partnership and look forward to growing our community partnerships in order to best support our programs and student athletes.”
Collier Field is named in honor of Madison Heights High School’s first principal Robert Collier for the tremendous impact he had at ACS and in the community. The current Anderson High School building was named Madison Heights High School from 1956-1997.
"One of the things most important to us in this process was not to lose the original name of the field," added Dodson. "In other communities, a corporate sponsor's name sometimes overshadows the original field name. We didn't want that to happen here. It is critical that today's student-athletes know who Mr. Collier was and celebrate our storied history."
