It has become apparent Anderson’s female student-athletes take their studies very seriously as Talaysha Simonds becomes the fifth consecutive THB Sports Girls Scholar Athlete of the Year Award winner from the school.
The girls Johnny Wilson Award nominee as well, Simonds excelled in the classroom to the tune of a 4.735 grade-point average. She played soccer, basketball — where she was a 42% 3-point shooter — and tennis. On the tennis court, she was a second-team All-North Central Conference selection and has also earned Academic All-NCC nods in all three sports.
Simonds will attend Cal Tech in Pasadena this fall, where she plans to study biology. Cal Tech is one of the world’s most recognized institutions of higher learning devoted to science and engineering and is where NASA’s jet propulsion laboratory is managed. Also accepted at Indiana University, Evansville and Xavier University of Louisiana, Simonds is planning on becoming a psychiatrist or biostatistician.
